The news out of California’s Silicon Valley hasn’t been swell for technology workers as numerous major corporations — such as Twitter, Amazon and Meta — have announced layoffs in the thousands.
Bad news for one coast, though, is opportunity for middle America. The Northwest Arkansas Council ran a full-page advertisement in the Dec. 4 editions of the San Francisco Chronicle and other area newspapers to alert unemployed tech workers about plenty of jobs — 2,000, in fact — open in northwest Arkansas. The council is a nonprofit composed of local business, education and community leaders.
The council is planning to run similar ads for a month on LinkedIn in the San Francisco and Silicon Valley areas. It has been active in trying to bring tech workers to northwest Arkansas through its Life Works Here initiative, which has included incentives such as $10,000 in bitcoin or cash and bicycles.
“Our goal is to capture the attention of some of the recently laid-off tech workers in the area and let them know northwest Arkansas has lots of open tech jobs and to highlight our quality of life,” said council spokesman Nate Green.
