OK Foods, the chicken producer based in Fort Smith, announced Monday that it has closed on the purchase of a chicken production plant in Oklahoma City and that it would hire 100 new workers for a new fully cooked line at the facility.
The company said it would begin hiring in August for the former American Food Groups plant. A news release indicated the plant is capable of producing 700,000 pounds of product per week.
A sale price was not disclosed.
The acquisition of the plant was announced in December. In the release, company officials said the acquisition will help streamline and improve product mix in its U.S. operations.
Based in Fort Smith, OK Foods was acquired in 2011 by Industrias Bachoco out of Celaya, Mexico, and operates as a subsidiary. It employs 3,000 workers in the U.S.
“OK Foods plans to increase the production in this facility, which will allow OK Foods to hire even more hard-working employees from the local community,” CEO Trent Goins said in the news release.
