Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. has relocated to a new, larger service center in Fort Smith as the trucking firm continues its efforts to grow in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.
The facility, which employs about 25 people, is located in the Fort Chafee Industrial Park and now includes 52 service doors. Old Dominion is headquartered in Thomasville, N.C., and has had a service center in Fort Smith for nine years.
Relocating the Fort Smith operation is part of $95 million the company is investing in real estate and expansion projects for 2013. Old Dominion was expected to spend about $6 million on the 25,000-SF facility, according to a 2012 article in the Southwest Times Record.
Old Dominion is a less-than-truckload carrier. The company reported $532.6 million in first-quarter revenue, a 7.1 percent increase over the same period in 2012.
“This expanded, state-of-the-art service center will enable us to sustain Old Dominion’s steady growth in the region,” Chris Kelley, vice president of the Central States Region at Old Dominion, said in a release. “With the increased space, we will continue providing customers with excellent customer service, including Old Dominion’s industry-leading delivery rates and claims ratios.”
