Our House Gets $244K Grant to Expand Reach

1 min read

Our House has received a $244,827 federal grant that will help the nonprofit expand its reach in central Arkansas.

The grant is provided by AmeriCorps, the federal agency for volunteerism and national service, with support from the state volunteer agency Engage Arkansas. It comes with an additional $199,331 local match.

The money will allow Our House to use 35 AmeriCorps members to provide support and opportunities to homeless and near-homeless families in the region. Those AmeriCorps members will participate in direct service roles working with children and youth, or adult clients in Our House’s career center.

Priscilla Barnes, Our House director of human resources, said in a news release that the nonprofit expects to serve more than 2,500 homeless or near-homeless families and individuals in central Arkansas.

Through their service, the AmeriCorps members will net a combined $100,543 in AmeriCorps Segal Education Award funds to be used for paying back student loans or furthering their education.
