Oxford American, the quarterly magazine published in Arkansas focused on the American South and its culture, has begun the third season of its podcast, Points South.
This season of the podcast will include dispatches from Logan Scherer and Diane Roberts, along with the works of Marfa Public Radio reporter Annie Rosenthal and chef and educator Andrea Nguyen, as well as researcher and activist Kidada E. Williams.
Oxford American contributor David Ramsey looks at the a congregation of Old Regular Baptists in Blackey, Kentucky, in the season’s first episode, focusing on its distinctive singing and preaching. The podcast follows up on Ramsey’s 2017 piece “Tuned Up in the Spirit” and “features fresh reporting and a new photo gallery, according to an Oxford American news release.
The podcast is available at OA’S web site, oxfordamerican.org/pointssouth.
The podcast was made possible by a grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the editors said. “Several episodes this season will also feature digital multimedia elements, including photo galleries, original films and other cross-medium explorations that expand and deepen our audio stories,” the release said.
The Points South podcast became available April 19 and new episodes will appear throughout the summer.
