Fayetteville police said Allen West, the CFO of PAM Transport Inc. in Tontitown, used racial slurs and punched and spit on an Uber driver before his arrest in the early morning hours of Feb. 16 in downtown Fayetteville.

West, 52, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center and released on $1,500 bail. West was charged with third-degree battery, disorderly conduct and public intoxication, all misdemeanors, and he has a court date scheduled for today.

A spokeswoman for PAM said the company was aware of the incident but had no comment.

A police report said an officer was on duty at 1:25 a.m. outside the VIP Club at 326 N. West Ave. when an Uber driver pulled up and asked the officer to remove the passenger in his front seat. The driver, who is black and 26 years old, told the officer the white passenger, later identified as West, spit on him and used racial slurs.

The slurs West allegedly used were not specified in the report.

The police officer said he asked West what was going on but he was unable to understand West’s slurred response. The officer said West had red, watery eyes and smelled of alcohol. The officer said he then saw West punch the driver in the face.

After witnessing the punch, the officer said, he placed West under arrest and transported him without incident to the detention center. The report said the driver had a red mark and minor swelling around his left eyebrow.

West joined PAM in 1997 as the company’s director of tax.

He was promoted to vice president of tax and financial reporting in 2007 and named CFO in 2013. West earned total compensation of $755,000 in 2018, according to a proxy statement PAM filed with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission in March 2019.

PAM said his base salary for 2019 would be $335,140. PAM is expected to file its proxy statement for 2019 later this month.
