The biotech company Pel-Freez Biologicals announced Wednesday that it’s expanding its facility in Rogers, which will create 31 new jobs.
“Due to Pel-Freez’s unique position at the intersection of agriculture and the global life science supply chain, there are many reasons why Northwest Arkansas is an ideal location to continue growing our company,” Pel-Freez President and CEO Dr. Brian Bonk said in a news release.
The company, which began in 1911 as a backyard rabbit farm, produces rabbit serum and other specialized life science reagents used in the diagnostic and vaccine industry. It provides biological materials including plasma, tissue and antibodies to more than 1,000 customers in 40-plus countries.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson said in the release that Pel-Freez is “exactly the type of company we want to recruit here, and I’m thrilled that they continue to invest in Arkansas.”
The company benefits from two state incentives: The Advantage Arkansas Program, which offers a state income tax credit for job creation, and the Tax Back Program, which provides a sales and use tax refund for eligible expenditures.
“Pel-Freez is just one more example of how the business climate and workforce in Northwest Arkansas are ideally suited to propel biotech companies to success,” Secretary of Commerce Mike Preston said in the release.
