You may have heard about a Nov. 30 lightning-caused fire at the Pinnacle Heights project in Rogers, but what you may not know is that it was the project’s second brush with nature and could delay construction by a week or two.
The 13-acre $100 million project off South Champions Drive and near west Pauline Whitaker Parkway will have a boutique hotel, approximately 300 apartment units and 30,000 SF of retail and restaurants.
The property is owned by a partnership between Hunt Ventures, led by Johnelle Hunt, and her Oklahoma City partners, Andy and David Burnett. The project was set to be completed in October 2020.
“We were very thankful that we caught [the fire] as early as we did. The fire department responded fabulously. It was contained to half of one building,” Tom Allen of Cushman & Wakefield/Sage Partners, who is overseeing construction, told Whispers. “And we’ll probably have to — we’re still working through this — but we’ll probably have to tear down half of one building and rebuild it. But it’s just the framing, mostly. So it may delay us a week or two at the most.”
He added, “The funny thing about it … we’ve been hit by a tornado on that project and now we got hit by a lightning bolt with fire, so we’re holding our breath for what’s next.”
Allen added that no one was hurt in the blaze, and, he said, it looked and sounded worse than it was.
