Prosecutor Scott Ellington Joins Race for 1st District Seat

1 min read

LITTLE ROCK – A prosecutor who helped negotiate the deal that freed the men known as the West Memphis Three has joined the Democratic race for an east Arkansas congressional seat.

Prosecutor Scott Ellington filed paperwork Thursday to run for the party’s nomination for the 1st Congressional District. Ellington made his bid official shortly before the noon deadline for candidates to file.

Ellington is the third Democrat running to challenge Republican Congressman Rick Crawford. State Rep. Clark Hall and Arkansas State University economist Gary Latanich have also filed for the seat.

Ellington says he believes he’s the Democrat who can defeat Crawford in November.

As prosecutor, Ellington agreed to a deal that allowed the West Memphis Three to plead guilty to the murder of three Cub Scouts while still maintaining their innocence.
