Pulaski Technical College to Host Manufacturing Day for Students

1 min read

In celebration of Manufacturing Day on Oct. 2, Pulaski Technical College Little Rock – South will host manufacturing exhibition fair for students.

Manufacturers from the region will provide interactive exhibits to secondary students as part of an effort to change student’s perceptions about the manufacturing environment and draw attention to the opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide.

“There is an increasing demand for highly skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program, and operate technology,” Jay Chesshir, president and CEO of the Little Rock Regional Chamber, said in a news release. “By opening students’ eyes to the possible careers in manufacturing at the secondary level, we increase the likelihood they will pursue advanced manufacturing as a career.”

According to Chesshir, the average age of a manufacturing employee is 56, which in the next five years will cause a shortage of skilled workers who will need to be replaced.

Manufacturing Day is co-produced by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Manufacturing Institute, the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and guest producer Industrial Strength Marketing.
