📷 Gallery: Remembering Andrew Kilgore (1940–2026)

1 min read

Andrew Kilgore, the photographer who captured Arkansas’ most powerful as well as its most vulnerable in black-and-white portraiture, died Jan. 5. His unmistakable style captured Arkansans as they were, every wrinkle and expression. His form had a humanizing effect, and his photos revealed more about the subjects than their appearance.

Kilgore also played a critical role in the history of this publication. From 1984 to 1988, he photographed business legends and up-and-comers for the cover of Arkansas Business. The publication was biweekly then, with a more magazine-like approach to business news than it would adopt after converting to a weekly news cycle in 1990. It was also printed in black ink only on newsprint, but with a heavier paper stock cover on which Kilgore’s unmistakable style made a striking statement.

“The Kilgores” — as we call our archives of his prints — are treasured. And his contributions to Arkansas Business were critical as the publication sought to establish itself as a reputable voice in Arkansas media. Please enjoy a sampling of his work showing some of the late Arkansas business leaders whom Kilgore captured.
