Transportation executive Lew Thompson acquired 60 acres in Harrison with plans to build a large-scale residential development.
Thompson, the owner of Lew Thompson & Son Trucking in Huntsville, plans the two-phase residential project on Gipson Road. The first phase will include 54 single-family homes on 18 acres and apartment units on 12 acres.
The plans for the remaining 30 acres have not been finalized.
“We located our second trucking terminal in Harrison three years ago, and I’m very pleased with the reception we and our employees have had,” said Lew Thompson, who founded the company in 1983. “In addition to having family in Harrison, I believe in the community and its potential, recognized the need, the property became available, and we’re excited to begin the development.”
Thompson said he has met with Harrison Mayor Jerry Jackson, and his development team will have plans ready to show the city’s planning and zoning commission soon.
“The city welcomes Lew Thompson and this residential development, an important need for the community,” Jackson said. “As a former realtor and at one time recalling several hundred homes on the market in the region, these new homes and apartments will add substantially to the inventory and provide our newcomers with many options to live and work locally.”
Josh Thompson Properties LLC, led by the company president and Lew Thompson’s son, acquired 20 acres of land on Gipson Road for $240,000 in 2019. The sales price for either of the adjacent parcels on each side, both of which are 20 acres, was not released and has not been filed with Boone County.
