Everyone knows that Cajun’s Wharf in Little Rock closed earlier this year after 44 years. But did you know that plans are in the works to rent the 20,000-SF space to a group that wants to use it for a restaurant and entertainment venue?
Groups from Birmingham, Alabama; Memphis; and Houston have been checking out the building, which sits along the Arkansas River, said Alex Blass, a principal at the commercial real estate firm Sage Partners Cushman & Wakefield of Little Rock. (Blass also was a member of the 20 in Their 20s in 2015. The 2019 class is featured in this issue.)
Blass said he expects a signed lease in the next 30 to 60 days, and the venue open by next summer.
The group that rents the building is expected to make “a significant development … to make it a more modern indoor-outdoor entertainment restaurant space,” he said.
Blass said the groups were attracted to the location because it’s on the river and is close to downtown and the Heights and Hillcrest neighborhoods.
Little Rock’s VCC general contracting firm handled the demolition work on the building, which now has concrete floors and an open floor plan.
If you recall, Cajun’s owner Mary Beth Ringgold, who also owns the Copper Grill and Capers Restaurant and the Market at Capers, all in Little Rock, decided not to renew Cajun’s lease.
