Riggs Cat of Little Rock was a finalist in last Thursday’s Arkansas Business of the Year Awards, and its headquarters building has also been singled out for national recognition.
The American Institute of Steel Construction of Chicago has announced that the Caterpillar dealership building at 9125 Interstate 30 will receive its merit award for projects costing less than $15 million.
“What impressed the jurors was how economical the building cost was when considering the expressive use of steel, and how the building looked like an actual piece of heavy equipment moving through the trees as a perfect reflection of the company and their story,” said Reese Rowland, an architect with Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects, the Little Rock firm that designed the building.
Among the 12 projects honored with the AISC’s national awards this year are the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, where the Super Bowl was held earlier this month; the World Trade Center Transportation Hub in New York; and the Apple Store in San Francisco.
“We are in incredible company,” Rowland said.
