Ritter Partners on Free Wi-Fi Park in Newport

1 min read

Ritter Communications of Jonesboro has partnered with the Newport Economic Development to provide free internet service at a new Wi-Fi park in the city.

The RightFiber Wi-Fi Park, named after Ritter’s broadband service, aims to expand access to high-speed internet in the area. Located next to the local library, it will feature 41 regular parking spots, four handicap parking spaces and four shaded picnic table areas.

The idea was born out of the pandemic, when the Newport Economic Development Commission saw some students and business owners struggling.

“We saw a real need within our community arise, and we’ve been amazed at the support we’ve received in addressing it,” Jon Chadwell, director of the NEDC, said in a news release. “With the help of Ritter Communications, we’re creating the infrastructure that will ensure our citizens have remote access to high-quality wireless internet in a safe outdoor environment should another event similar to the pandemic occur.”

Ritter and the NEDC have partnered with the Southwest Planning and Development District on the project, which is funded through a grant from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.
