Roy Slagle Retires as CEO of ABF Freight; Tim Thorne to Replace

Roy Slagle retired as CEO and president of ABF Freight System Inc. on Wednesday after 37 years.

ABF Freight is the largest subsidiary of ArcBest Corp. of Fort Smith. ArcBest announced Thursday that Tim Thorne would replace Slagle as ABF Freight president.

“Roy’s retirement is well-deserved after nearly four decades at ABF Freight,” said ArcBest President and CEO Judy McReynolds in a statement. “Over the years, Roy has helped guide ABF Freight through numerous challenges and successes. We wish him and his wife, Karen, all the best as they enjoy the fruits of retirement.”

Thorne, a 24-year veteran of ABF Freight, is being promoted from his position as vice president of linehaul operations. Thorne, a former captain in the United States Army, was previously a regional vice president of operations. based in Salt Lake City.

“Tim is a highly regarded leader with a strong customer focus and deep knowledge of our freight operations across the country,” McReynolds said. “As we look for ways to better serve our customers and deliver easily accessible solutions for all their supply chain needs, I am confident Tim will work tirelessly to ensure the ABF Freight experience exceeds their expectations.”
