Saline Memorial’s Weight Loss Center Receives Accreditation

1 min read

Saline Memorial Hospital announced Wednesday that its Weight Loss Center that opened in 2013 has been accredited as a comprehensive center under the Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Accreditation & Quality Improvement Program.

The MBSAQIP is a joint program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.

Kristin Patton, metabolic and bariatric surgery director, said in a news release, “This accreditation is a huge step in quality improvement, which can only make our program safer for patients, and that is our number one goal. We are proud to offer a comprehensive, patient-centered weight loss program to the people of Arkansas.”

The accreditation standards require that bariatric surgical patients receive a multidisciplinary program, not just a surgical procedure, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success. The center had to meet criteria for staffing, training and facility infrastructure and protocols for care. The process involved an extensive site visit, and the center must also participate in a national data registry that yields semiannual reports on the quality of its processes and outcomes.

The accreditation also means more insurance companies will cover procedures and surgeries, Saline Memorial said.
