1 min read

Bruno Hicks will become president of Southern Arkansas University at Magnolia on June 17, the SAU System board of trustees announced on May 20 after a nationwide search. “Dr. Hicks has a successful background in higher education,” Laura Ann Winning, chair of the board, said in a statement. “He has dedicated the majority of his career to regional institutions similar in size to the SAU System, most recently in Dalton, Georgia. The knowledge Dr. Hicks gained on his family farm, which is still operational, further aligns him with SAU’s agricultural roots.”

Hicks is currently the provost and vice president of academic affairs at Dalton State College in Georgia. Before joining DSC in 2020, Hicks was the founding dean of the School of Education at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts, beginning in 2016. Before that, Hicks spent 18 years at the University of Maine at Fort Kent as a professor of education and environmental studies, including 12 years as chair of the education department.

Hicks earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and environmental studies and an Ed.D. in science/STEM education from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. He has a master’s in environmental education, experiential education and field studies program development from Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
