Former Walmart Inc. CEO Lee Scott and his wife, Linda, gave $10.35 million to the Scott Family Amazeum on Thursday in Bentonville.
The $21.5 million, 50,000-SF Amazeum opened in 2015 and was named in the Scott Family’s honor because of their early financial support. It is a child-friendly interactive museum located near Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
Lee and Linda’s son, Eric and his wife, Elda, are members of the museum’s board of directors.
“The Amazeum has had a tremendous impact on our family, and we believe in the importance of investing in its future,” Lee Scott said. “Through this ongoing commitment to the Amazeum, we are investing in the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders — ensuring that the Amazeum continues to inspire and educate future generations.”
The museum said the gift will help it expand its facilities and programs.
“We are so grateful for the leadership and ongoing support from the Scott Family,” Amazeum Executive Director Sam Dean said. “Since the inception of the museum, Lee and Linda have been strong advocates for STEAM-based education and inspiring children and adults to learn, create and explore.”
The museum said it has plans for a 5,000-SF building to host community gatherings and dedicated space for early learners.
“The next phase of growth will complement the nearby Crystal Bridges nature trails and Orchards Park, creating an exciting outdoor destination for the Northwest Arkansas region,” Eric Scott said “We hope this gift will inspire others to give to the Amazeum as they expand and reflect the needs of the community.”
