Sevier County Medical Handles Crises and New LifeLock Icon

1 min read

The air evacuation service at Sevier County Medical Center was especially busy with three helicopters in action one hectic day in early summer.

Three patients arrived: One suffering from a stroke, one from a heart attack and one from an ATV accident.

Although delivering babies isn’t on the rural hospital’s official menu of services, the emergency room has hosted the arrival of three newborns.

The circumstances for the drive-up mothers in labor included a family’s car breaking down on the way to Mena Regional Health System with a helpful stranger providing transportation to Sevier County Medical Center.

A second mother waited too long in the birthing process to make it to another hospital, and early labor prompted the third mom to seek medical attention closer to home.

SCMC CEO Stacy Dowdy recalls the happy drama: “The baby is coming. Let’s do it here.”
