Shorter College Names Jeffery Norfleet as Interim President

1 min read

Shorter College in North Little Rock announced Thursday in a press release that it has appointed provost and vice president Jeffery W. Norfleet II as interim president.

Norfleet temporarily fills a role left vacant by the death of Jerome Green in April. Green, 69, had been president of the historically Black, two-year college since 2012.

Norfleet joined Shorter College in January, according to his LinkedIn page. Before then, he was the executive director of institutional effectiveness, assistant professor of leadership studies and director for the quality enhancement plan at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee. In those roles, he provided oversight for program and unit assessments, initiated and coordinated strategic planning, and provided instruction and mentorship to graduate and doctoral students.

Norfleet previously served on the Tennessee Board of Regents, the governing authority for Tennessee’s public two-year colleges, and was director of academic affairs for the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. In those positions, he supported the development of new academic programs for the public higher education institutions, coordinated off-campus instruction, guided the Tennessee Accreditation Network and spearheaded the Black Male Success Initiative.

Norfleet earned his bachelor’s in humanities and a master’s in education at Tennessee State University. He earned his doctorate in education at Trevecca Nazarene University.

In November, Shorter College received a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Agency to help renovate and equip the Rock Island Railroad Depot in North Little Rock for use as a technology career training center.
