Sources: Amazon Coming to the Port of Little Rock

The Port of Little Rock is expected to be the home of an Amazon fulfillment center, sources have told Arkansas Business.

The online retailer is in the process of building an approximately 3 million-SF center at the port, the sources said. The building is expected to have four levels, each being about 850,000 SF.

Not many other details are known about the project. 

Amazon, headquartered at Seattle, said in a recent statement to Arkansas Business that it is “constantly exploring new locations and weighing a variety of factors when deciding where to develop sites to best serve customers, however, we don’t provide information on our future roadmap.”

The Port of Little Rock touts its central location and intermodal transportation facilities.

“In addition to having access on the Arkansas River year-round, we provide immediate access to major U.S. interstates, Class I railways and national runways,” it said on its website. “We’re within a day’s drive of many of the nation’s largest population centers, and are surrounded by a population of more than one million people.” 

The port project would come on the heels of another Amazon project coming to central Arkansas. On Monday, the Arkansas Times reported that Amazon will open a facility in a warehouse off Interstate 30. 

In 2018, Amazon opened a 14,760-SF facility in North Little Rock. Amazon calls that building a  delivery station, which powers “the last mile of our customer order process” and helps speed up deliveries for its customers.
