Think back to February 2013, when Whispers first told you that a Chinese paper manufacturer, Shandong Sun Paper Industry, was close to announcing the location of a $1 billion wood pulp plant at either Arkadelphia or Camden.
Clearly we were ahead of the game because no announcement has been forthcoming, despite the passage of a full year. But our sources assure us that the project is not dead and that Arkansas is still very much in the running for the pulp plant.
In fact, we’re told a third potential site is in the running. And that third site may be Crossett, although we weren’t able to get rock-solid confirmation of that.
Crossett is no stranger to the paper industry, of course: Georgia-Pacific makes paper products there, including Quilted Northern toilet paper.
