Southland Park’s $10 Million Renovation

Southland Park Gaming & Racing’s $10 million renovation project is expected to be completed in May.

The West Memphis center started the project in December to "better serve a fast-growing patron base," according to a Nov. 15 news release.

The amount of money bet on Southland’s electronic games have skyrocketed since May 2011 – when the casinos in Tunica were temporarily closed because of flooding.

After the water receded in Tunica, gamblers continued to flock to Southland, Troy Keeping, its president and general manager, told Arkansas Business last week.  

Southland didn’t have the space to meet the demand, so the renovation was approved.

"We’re getting the people that use to go to Tunica," he said. "They’re coming to us now because we’re a lot closer."

After the renovation is completed, Keeping said that if the business continues to grow, other expansion options will be considered.
