State Co-ops Help Restore Power in Alabama, Louisiana

1 min read

Arkansas’ electric cooperatives are sending workers and equipment to help restore power in Alabama and Louisiana after Wednesday’s strong storms in the South.

The state’s cooperatives dispatched 77 line workers and utility vehicles to assist Alabama Power and DEMCO, a utility in Central City, Louisiana.

Seven of the line workers are from Petit Jean Electric Cooperative of Clinton, and 70 are with Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. of Little Rock, according to a news release.

The seven Petit Jean workers and 33 AECI workers are restoring power in Louisiana. The other AECI workers were sent to Alabama.

The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas comprise 17 electric distribution cooperatives along with AECI of Little Rock, which provides services to the distribution cooperatives, and Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corp., a generation and transmission cooperative. Together, the co-ops provide electricity to about 600,000 homes, farms and businesses in Arkansas and surrounding states.
