Mercy Hospital Fort Smith announced that Stephanie Whitaker has been named chief nursing officer.
Whitaker joined Mercy in late 2021 as vice president of patient care services. She replaces Cheri Soubiron, who relocated to be closer to family.
In her new role, Whitaker is looking will oversee the ongoing growth and development of Mercy’s nursing team, as well as multidisciplinary collaboration to reach Mercy’s goal of increasing access to high-quality health care in the community. That includes the expansion of the emergency room and intensive care unit at Mercy Fort Smith.
“I look forward to seeing how this will help serve the community,” she said of the project.
Whitaker has a master’s in nursing leadership and administration from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah, and a bachelor’s in nursing from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
