Stone’s Throw Opening Still Brewing

2 min read

If you’re a regular reader, you may remember our May 6 story about crowdfunding and Stone’s Throw Brewing, the brewery going in at the corner of Ninth and Rock streets in Little Rock.

We checked in with Ian Beard, the home brewer who has undertaken the venture with partners Theron Cash, Shawn Tobin and Brad McLaurin. The four had requested $10,000 in donations through crowdfunding site Kickstarter to allow them to outfit a tasting room at their business.

Meeting that goal in just over three days, they set a new goal of $19,000 to allow them to buy a bigger fermenter, doubling their brewing capacity. Meeting that $19,000 goal propelled them to set a second “stretch” goal of $24,000, so the brewers could increase their “kegging capacity” by buying more kegs.

They hit $23,215, but Beard says, “While we were short, we should still be able to enlarge our kegging capacity at the same time we get the new fermenter. … Orders for fermenters typically take a few months to complete, so we have time to hopefully make a little more money to get everything we need.

“Work continues on the brewery, mainly in the tasting room area. Our production areas are complete and awaiting inspection. The bar is in the process of being built, and we’re keeping an eye out for tables and stools. If we can get our inspections done quickly, we hope to be able to open by the end of June. We’re toying with the idea of having a block party on Rock Street to kick everything off with.”
