Summit Utilities Inc. of Centennial, Colorado, announced Monday that it is opening a new office in Fort Smith as an operations hub for subsidiaries Summit Utilities Arkansas and Arkansas Oklahoma Gas.
Summit completed its acquisition of AOG in 2017 and closed on its $2.2 billion purchase of CenterPoint Energy’s natural gas assets in Arkansas and Oklahoma in January of 2022.
After the acquisitions, the company’s exponential growth led to its adding more than 300 jobs in Arkansas, according to a news release.
The new 28,000-SF office at 1000 Fianna Way will provide a workplace for about 250 employees, spokeswoman Stephanie Sharp told Arkansas Business. Many of the workers will be in the customer service, IT and accounting divisions.
The space is in the ACHE Research Institute Health & Wellness Center Building, formerly the home of Golden Living, Sharp said.
“We are grateful we can continue our expansion of office space and jobs in the Fort Smith area,” said Fred Kirkwood, senior vice president and chief customer experience officer. “This new space aligns with our commitment to providing excellent customer service to the more than half a million families we serve across Summit’s service area, which spans multiple states.”
The Fort Smith office will remain Summit’s primary customer service operations, serving approximately 625,000 customers in six states. Summit has more than 200 customer service team members, and more than half are based in the Fort Smith office. Summit serves about 425,000 natural gas customers in Arkansas.
