Sunstar, in Growth Mode, Acquires WLR’s Matson Agency

1 min read

Keeping up an aggressive pace of growth, Sunstar Insurance Group LLC of Memphis has absorbed the business of the Matson Agency of west Little Rock, its second acquisition just this year.

Buddy Matson and his son, Tracy, who led the acquired agency, will relocate to Sunstar’s Little Rock offices at 11700 Cantrell Road.

Sunstar, which has offices in Jonesboro and Helena, as well as in Tennessee, Missouri and Kansas, purchased the property & casualty accounts and assets from the insurance affiliates of Simmons Bank in September, and acquired the Town & Country Insurance Agency of Jonesboro from Stephens Insurance Inc. last month.

No financial details were revealed by Sunstar, which was founded in 2012.

“We are thrilled to add Tracy Matson and his father, Buddy, to the growing Sunstar family,” said Andrew “A.B.” Meadors, the company’s CEO in Arkansas, said in a news release. Meadors noted that Tracy Matson specializes in employee benefits and life insurance. “Their business perfectly complements our existing clients, and will attract new ones. We’ll work together cross-selling accounts across the state.”

Sunstar, founded by David L. “Casey” Bowlin, the full company’s chairman and CEO, was ranked as the 73rd largest property and casualty insurance firm in America by Insurance Journal, an industry magazine. It has more than $250 million in premiums placed on behalf of clients and represents virtually all the major national insurance companies, the release said. More than 250 insurance professionals work for the group.
