Paula Casey has been named interim dean of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, effective July 1.
Background: Casey has previously worked as a U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and served as chief counsel and legislative assistant to Sen. Dale Bumpers from 1991-93. She has received recognition from the FBI for special achievement and received a meritorious achievement award in 1997 from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Experience: A professor at the law school, Casey has taught classes in lawyering skills, criminal procedure, evidence, advanced litigation and family law and property. She worked there from 1978 to 1993, including a stint as associate dean from 1986 to 1991. Casey rejoined the faculty in 2001.
New Position: As interim dean, Casey will take over for John DiPippa, who announced in December he would step down at the end of this term. Casey’s appointment as interim dean will begin July 1 and will continue until a new law school dean is selected. "Professor Casey served ably as associate dean … and she also served with distinction in public roles outside the university," said UALR Chancellor Joel Anderson. "She is well prepared to lead the Bowen School of Law and continue the good work of her predecessors."
