TheatreSquared to Break Ground on New Theater

1 min read

TheatreSquared Artistic Director Robert Ford and Executive Director Martin Miller said Wednesday that the theater will break ground June 23 on its new permanent home.

Plans call for a 50,000-SF two-venue facility at 477 W. Spring St. in Fayetteville designed by Marvel Architects and Charcoalblue. The facility will include rehearsal space; offices; education and community space; on-site design and building workshops; eight guest artist apartments; outdoor public spaces at three levels; and a cafe.

The event will also mark the beginning of the company’s public fund-raising campaign. Called “Our New Stage,” the campaign aims to raise $34 million to fully fund construction and “establish an artistic, operating and education reserve.”

“It’s a thrilling moment for northwest Arkansas,” Miller said in a news release. “In this architecturally significant yet intimately scaled new theater center, millions of Arkansans will experience remarkable performances by exceptional artists. Beginning June 23, we’ll work to bring the community together in a public campaign to achieve our $34 million goal and guarantee the future of this vision.”

Ford said the theater will “strengthen our region’s reputation as a national destination for the arts and for singular live performances.”

Charcoalblue of London is the lead consultant and theater designer for the project. Its portfolio includes the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Everyman Theatre, the Donmar Warehouse, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater and Baltimore Center Stage. Marvel Architects of New York has won more than 60 national and international design awards. Baldwin & Shell Construction Co. of Little Rock will build the facility.
