Tim Hill Named Vice Chancellor at UAMS

1 min read

Tim Hill has been named University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences vice chancellor for Regional Programs, effective Aug. 1.

Hill succeeds Dr. Mark Mengel, who retired in May. Hill has served in the position in an interim appointment since then.

Regional Programs, originally called the Area Health Education Centers (AHECs), was started in 1973 through the efforts of then-Gov. Dale Bumpers, the Arkansas Legislature and UAMS to train medical residents and provide clinical care and health education services around the state.

Its eight regional centers are located in Batesville, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Helena, Jonesboro, Magnolia, Pine Bluff and Texarkana.

“Tim Hill has done an exceptional job in leading Regional Programs at UAMS during the transition,” UAMS Chancellor Dr. Dan Rahn said in a news release. “He has clearly demonstrated that he has the skills, knowledge and inclusive and transparent management style needed to provide excellent leadership of Regional Programs in the future.”

Previously, Hill was director of the UAMS Center for Healthcare Enhancement and Development since October 2013 and for more than two years before that he was director of the UAMS Center for Rural Health.
