The Times of North Little Rock is moving back to North Little Rock.
Stephens Media is moving The Times and the rest of its central Arkansas operation from 119 Main St. in Little Rock to the U.S. Bank Building at 1 Riverfront Drive in North Little Rock, Executive Editor Dennis Byrd told Whispers.
He said the company’s lease was up at its current location, where it’s been for the five years since combining seven of its central Arkansas papers into a single office. Stephens Media is headquartered in Las Vegas but is owned by the Stephens family of Little Rock.
“It was our choice,” Byrd said of the move. “We actually had more space than we needed here, so we were looking to find a space that was better suited for our needs.”
In August, the bureau laid off four journalists, cutting its number of staff writers by half.
Byrd said the move’s timeline is still up in the air as a contractor has yet to be hired to build out the space.
“We’re trying to get geared up to get this all accomplished,” he said. “It is a tedious process.”
