Tractor Supply Co. of Brentwood, Tennessee, officially announced plans Wednesday to build a new $100 million, 900,000-SF distribution center in Maumelle.
The facility, expected to open in late 2023, would employ 450 full-time workers and service 250 Tractor Supply stores, the company said. Construction in the city’s industrial park is set to begin in the middle of this year.
“Tractor Supply is excited to begin work on our tenth distribution center, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the Maumelle community,” CEO Hal Lawton said in a news release. “In support of our Life Out Here Strategy, this new distribution center is a significant investment to help serve our growing store base and online sales as we build a strong, relevant company for the future.”
The Arkansas Times, citing public documents on file with the city of Maumelle, first reported the company’s plans on Friday. The distribution center will sit on about 121 acres at Champs Boulevard and Jackie Burnett Drive. According to real estate records, Tractor Supply bought the acreage for $2.5 million from HEA Properties LLC, led by Bryan Austin.
According to the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, the project qualifies for $1 million from the governor’s quick-action fund; seven years of the Create Rebate program, which is an annual cash rebate based on the number of jobs added by a company; the Tax Back program, which provides sales and use tax refunds on the purchase of building materials and taxable machinery; and a $50,000 business and industry training grant.
“Arkansas has a dedicated and skilled workforce that is ready to meet Tractor Supply Company’s needs as they embark on this newest expansion,” Gov. Asa Hutchinson said in a news release. “We wish the company well as they grow and expand in Arkansas, and we are here to help them however we can.”
The announcement comes just weeks after Arkansas Business reported plans by Dollar General Corp. of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, to build a $140 million distribution center that would employ 300 people in the Galloway area of North Little Rock.
Tractor Supply said it worked with JLL, a real estate and investment management firm, to secure the site. In 2019, Entergy Arkansas worked with the city to certify the tract as a “Select Site.” The program works with communities as a tool to make project sites ready and convey that readiness to site location consultants and company leaders who are seeking a new location. Select Site specifically goes after high-tech, manufacturing and distribution project candidates by offering a thorough audit of site readiness for new or expanding business.
Other Select Site properties are in Jefferson County, Little Rock, Magnolia, Newport, Russellville and West Memphis.
“I am thrilled that Tractor Supply is investing in Maumelle with their newest distribution center,” Maumelle Mayor Caleb Norris said. “It is clear that Tractor Supply’s values complement Maumelle’s vision quite well and their presence will be a great addition to our community.”
The farm and home supply retailer operates 34 stores in Arkansas and 2,003 stores across 49 states. With the addition of a distribution center in Navarre, Ohio, scheduled to be complete later this year, Tractor Supply operates nine distribution centers in nine states. It has 46,000 employees.
