Trials for former northwest Arkansas real estate developer Brandon Barber and his four co-defendants have been delayed.
P.K. Holmes, chief judge for the Western District, approved Tuesday requests for continuance filed last week by Barber attorney Asa Hutchinson III.
Barber, Jeff Whorton and Brandon Rains are now scheduled to go to trial October 21 at 9 a.m. Barber, K. Vaughn Knight and James Van Doren have had their trial continued until September 16, also at 9 a.m.
Whorton, Rains and Barber were indicted on Jan. 16 on one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and two counts of money laundering. A separate indictment includes 27 counts against Knight, Van Doren and Barber.
Hutchison requested more time to prepare for the case in the May 30 filings. Holmes granted the request, noting “counsel for the Defendant would be denied the reasonable time necessary for effective preparation, taking into account the exercise of due diligence.”
Trials were originally scheduled for June 17.
