Tyson Foods Inc. of Springdale has announced a $200 million, 143,000-SF expansion of its beef plant in Amarillo, Texas.
The project will modernize the facility through enhanced automation and new technologies, and also support the company’s sustainability efforts through energy and water conservation improvements. Specially designed water utility equipment, pumps, and piping will automate and allow for a reduction in water usage.
The project also includes upgrades to employee locker rooms, office space and the facility’s cafeteria.
Work on the project is expected to begin this fall and be completed by 2024. No new jobs will be created.
About 4,000 people work at the plant, which is one of the largest of Tyson’s six beef facilities. The plant produces commodity cuts of fresh beef and specialty products and includes a ground beef patty operation.
“We’re committed to be the most sought-after place to work and while we’ve invested heavily in new benefits for our team, this project will improve the onsite work experience for our team members, while making our operations more efficient,” Shane Miller, group president of Tyson Fresh Meats, said in a news release.
