Tyson Foods Inc. of Springdale said Wednesday that it will compensate employees with up to four hours of regular pay if they are vaccinated against the coronavirus outside of work or receive it from a non-company source.
The company already offers free COVID-19 vaccinations at its U.S. facilities where the vaccines are available. Tyson Foods said “several hundred” employees have been vaccinated and it expects about 1,000 more in three states to be vaccinated in the coming week; the company had 119,915 U.S. employees at the end of the fiscal year in October.
Vaccinations are voluntary, but Tyson Foods said it is strongly encouraging employees to get vaccinated.
“This incentive is an additional way we can encourage our frontline workers to receive the vaccination, which we believe is another important protective measure,” said Johanna Söderström, chief human resources officer for Tyson Foods. “We’re ready to vaccinate more of our people, especially through the free, on-site vaccination program we’ve developed. However, vaccine availability continues to vary by state.”
