UA-Fort Smith Adds Master’s Program

1 min read

The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith will offer its first master’s degree program beginning in the fall.

On July 27, the Higher Learning Commission reaffirmed the university’s accreditation for 10 years, in addition to approving a master of science in health care administration.

With the HLC’s approval, the university can now officially offer the master’s degree, a milestone Chancellor Paul B. Beran said is a landmark achievement for the institution.

“The HLC approval for this master’s degree is the culmination of a vision that began several years ago and was made a reality through the hard work of the university’s administration, faculty and staff,” Beran said in a news release.

The Arkansas Department of Higher Education approved the Fort Smith campus’ masters program in October.

“The change in our role and scope is a game-changing opportunity for UAFS to expand its educational offerings to all residents the university serves,” Beran said.

HLC accreditation allows a university to receive federal funds and ensures credits will transfer to other accredited institutions, the university said.
