1 min read

Arya Basu, a University of Arkansas at Little Rock computer science professor, has been named a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a professional association for electrical and electronic engineering.

The IEEE is also the world’s largest association of technical professionals.

Senior membership, the most prestigious appointment, is given to veteran scientists, engineers and other with at least a decade of professional experience. Only 10% of IEEE’s more than 400,000 members have reached the senior membership level.

Basu’s research includes human-computer interaction, investigating human spatial decision-making in virtual reality and enhancing virtual reality immersive educational experiences, UA Little Rock said in a news release.

The professor is also collaborating with other researchers to use machine learning to monitor local sources of carbon emissions.

Before joining UA Little Rock in 2022, Basu worked as a visual information specialist and research scientist at the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship.

“Being acknowledged as a senior member by the IEEE is a significant milestone, representing a culmination of years of research, innovation, and contributions,” Basu said in a statement.
