The move of the Bachman Wilson House to the grounds of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is presenting opportunities for students of the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas.
The museum is collaborating with the school to involve architecture students in the relocation of the house. Students will spend three semesters not only learning about the construction procedures involved in reconstructing the house but will also design, develop and build a small architectural interpretation pavilion nearby for visitors to learn more about the house and its designer, Frank Lloyd Wright.
In addition, students will analyze and document the reassembly of the house, producing exhibition-quality drawings in a project for the federal Historic American Buildings Survey. “For the students, it’s a chance for them to be intimately involved in a home that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright,” said school spokesman Michelle Parks.
Santiago Perez, assistant professor of architecture and the school’s 21st Century Chair in Integrated Practice, is leading the first and second phases of the project in a Design-Fab Studio. Angela Carpenter, visiting assistant professor of architecture, is collaborating with Perez during the spring semester.
