UA System Announces Search Committee for Next Clinton School Dean

2 min read

University of Arkansas System President Donald Bobbitt announced Wednesday an advisory committee to assist in the search for the next dean of the UA Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock.

Longtime Dean James L. “Skip” Rutherford announced in September that he would retire on June 30. He has led the institution since its founding in 2006.

The search committee will be chaired by Bobbitt and aims to recruit national candidates.

Its members are:

  • Clinton School faculty member Chul Hyun Park,
  • Clinton School faculty member Al Bavon,
  • Ann Kamps with the Clinton Foundation,
  • Johanna Miller Lewis with UA Little Rock,
  • Alumnus and Clinton School staff member Kent Broughton,
  • University of Arkansas for Medical Science Provost Dr. Stephanie Gardner,
  • Clinton School student Connor Thompson,
  • Bruce Lindsey with the Clinton Foundation,
  • UA Board of Trustees member Morril Harriman, and
  • Angie Maxwell with the UA in Fayetteville.

Bobbitt will then recommend a candidate to the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas for final approval.

The committee held a preliminary meeting Friday to introduce members and define its goals heading into 2021.

“The Clinton School is a very unique member of the UA System and certainly has gained international recognition with a mission to serve a diverse range of goals,” Bobbitt said in a news release. “Dean Rutherford has been an integral part of developing the Clinton School, and it will be important that we find a person who can build on the school’s reputation in the emerging academic discipline of public service.”

Bobbitt said the committee will begin work early next year.
