A $37 million renovation project at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects.
The institute lauded the project for its use of "innovative design technology," according to a UA press release. The project involves adding about 34,000 SF to Vol Walker Hall, which houses UA’s Fay Jones School of Architecture.
According to the release, architects used "building information modeling," which involved software that displayed the building in interactive 3-D. Marlon Blackwell Architect is the lead architecture firm. The technology "gave us a fully navigable and realistic model that we could interact with and better understand what was going on with the project," William Burks, an intern with Marlon Blackwell, said in the release.
