UCA to Open Shoppes, Makerspace

The University of Central Arkansas and the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting for each of the businesses and community partners in The Shoppes at Donaghey at noon Wednesday.

The Shoppes are located at 250 Donaghey Ave. in Conway.

The ribbon cuttings will begin with Trek Bicycle Store Conway, followed by Uncle T’s Deli-Market, Blue Sail Coffee, Marble Slab Creamery/Great American Cookies, UCA’s Makerspace Powered by the Conductor and Mosaique Bistro.

UCA will also launch its makerspace at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 5, the day registration for classes and events opens. The makerspace will be Suite 130.

The university said the previously announced makerspace will be a place for students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community to make, design and dream.

All of the classes and events are free and open to the public. There will be weekly maker training workshops and maker ambassodors to help with projects, from sciene fair projects to a manufacturing job for a startup. 

Master Maker Jason Huselton will also help any inventor bring an idea to life through prototyping and design processes

The Conductor, a public-private initiative supporte by UCA, the Central Arkansas Venture Team and Startup Junkie Consulting, will provide programming to the makerspace.
