2 min read

Little Rock geotechnical and materials testing company Grubbs Hoskyn Barton & Wyatt has been acquired by privately held UES of Orlando, Florida, which describes itself as the nation’s fastest-growing engineering and consulting firm.

Grubbs Hoskyn Barton & Wyatt has branch locations in Springdale and El Dorado, and its professional and technical teams focus on solving foundation and earth structure problems, according to a news release on the acquisition. Some of its services include geotechnical investigations, engineering analysis and design, subsurface exploration and field and laboratory testing.

Founded in 1964 in Fayetteville and moved to Little Rock that same year, Grubbs Hoskyn Barton & Wyatt has worked on roadway, bridge, airport and high-rise projects. Notably, it has been involved in Interstate 30 improvements, ARDOT Connecting Arkansas, the Clinton Presidential Center, the Big Dam Bridge and Two Rivers bridge, as well as expansions at the Little Rock airport and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

The firm will be part of UES’ Midwest Region, led by Ed Alizadeh. The Little Rock firm’s leadership team will continue to operate the day-to-day business, the release said.

“We’re proud and excited to expand our geotechnical expertise with the Grubbs, Hoskyn, Barton & Wyatt team,” UES CEO Dave Witsken said in a statement. “Their reputation as geotechnical problem solvers is well regarded, and, with their addition, we look forward to growing our services in the southern portion of the Midwest Region.”

Mark Wyatt, President of Grubbs, Hoskyn, Barton & Wyatt, praised the opportunity to join UES, saying that the union “accommodates the long-term goals for our firm to provide quality geotechnical testing and materials testing services throughout Arkansas and gives us the opportunity for expansion.”

He said his firm had previously teamed with the Geotechnology group “on numerous projects, benefiting both firms. Becoming a part of the Midwest Region of UES will bring additional personnel and equipment and a broad increase in capabilities to our firm.”

The deal is the latest of many recent acquisitions by UES.

Beginning in 2019, the release said, UES has added Universal Engineering Sciences, GFA International, Inc., NOVA Geotechnical & Inspection Services, Contour Engineering, Wallace-Kuhl & Associates, Construction Testing & Engineering, SUMMIT Engineering, Laboratory & Testing, GEOServices, McGinley & Associates, Geotechnology, Alpha Testing, GSI Engineering, Speedie & Associates, Rock Engineering Testing & Laboratory, Dan Brown and Associates, Carmichael Engineering and Faulkner Engineering Services.

Grubbs Hoskyn Barton & Wyatt has more than 40 employees, including engineers, geologists, drillers, and soils, laboratory and materials technicians.
