Unity Health Names Mark Amox Next CEO

2 min read

Unity Health has named Mark Amox the next president and CEO of the Searcy-based health care provider.

The move takes effect Nov. 1. Amox follows Steven Webb, who resigned in May after leading Unity for nearly four years.

Amox brings more than 20 years of experience to the job. He joins Unity from the Regional Medical Center of San Jose, California, where he was chief operating officer. In that position, he oversaw campus expansion and enhancement projects totaling more than $200 million. His other work focused on developing strategic partnerships and enhancing key service lines.

Prior to his role with Regional Medical Center, he was COO of Sunrise Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas, president and CEO of El Paso Children’s Hospital in Texas, and administrator of Shands Children’s Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.

He also spent eight years as administrator of pediatrics at UAMS.

“Amox is the right leader to take Unity Health into the next season of growth,” Janet Hines, chair of the Unity Health board, said in a news release. “Mark has the right mix of executive experience and heartfelt commitment to Arkansas. We are excited he will be at the helm of Unity Health as we exit the pandemic and continue our commitment to provide compassionate care.”

Amox holds a master’s in health care administration and a master’s in business administration from the University of Houston at Clear Lake, Texas. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia.

Amox is board-certified with the American College of Medical Practice Executives and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

“As an Arkansan I am honored at the opportunity to return home to join the Unity Health family of associates,” Amox said in the release. “Unity Health is a remarkable organization dedicated to providing the highest quality of care, close to home. I look forward to building upon this rich tradition of excellence by focusing on our people, our patients and the communities we serve.”

Unity’s system, which spans eight counties, includes 13 family practice clinics and four hospital campuses: the White County Medical Center in Searcy, the Specialty Care Campus in Searcy, Unity Health in Newport, and Unity Health in Jacksonville, which is opening soon.
