Unity Health Sets March Opening for Jacksonville Hospital

1 min read

Searcy-based Unity Health announced that it plans to open the first phase of its hospital in Jacksonville in early March.

It’s another step toward completing a project that began two years ago with a $7.75 million deal to acquire the facility and several other properties formerly owned by Allegiance Health Management Inc. of Shreveport. Allegiance opened the hospital, formerly known as the North Metro Medical Center, in 2009 but abruptly closed it in 2019.

Unity Health spent $36 million million to renovate and reopen the facility, which now includes:

  • A 13-bed emergency department with two procedure rooms and one trauma room
  • Diagnostic imaging, including CT, MRI, mammography, x-ray and ultrasound
  • Observation and acute inpatient rooms
  • A 24-bed inpatient behavioral health unit
  • An onsite lab and pharmacy

The hospital is expected to employ about 112 people.

Jacksonville Mayor Jeff Elmore and Unity Health President and CEO Mark Amox were among those who attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the hospital on Wednesday.

Unity’s system spans eight counties. The hospital is its fourth in Arkansas.

A previous version of this story incorrectly reported the cost of the hospital renovation.
