Update: $20M Big Cypress Solar to Supply Power for Amazon

1 min read

Remember that big solar farm in the works over in Crittenden County? You know, the one called Big Cypress Solar.

When we last mentioned that 180-megawatt project two years ago, the developer, NextEra Energy of Juno Beach, Florida, was all coy about the exact location and other details.

Well, time to tie up some loose ends.

A NextEra affiliate acquired 1,595 acres in a single $20 million purchase in September 2021.

That swath of land is about 3 miles west of Clarkedale, along the west side of Bob White Road north from Highway 50.

The farmland was sold by an affiliate of PGIM Inc. of Newark, New Jersey. That’s PGIM as in Prudential Global Investment Management.

Most of NextEra’s solar array will be tapped to supply 120 megawatts of power for Amazon.

The remaining 60 megawatts of production will be split 40-20 between Jonesboro City Water & Light and West Memphis Utilities.
