The United States Marshals Museum in Fort Smith announced Tuesday that it will name its future facility in honor of Mary Carleton and Robert A. Young III.
Construction of the 50,000-SF museum will begin this spring and is expected to cost $16.5 million. It is set to open on Sept. 24, 2019. Plans call for the facility to have iconic features inspired by the U.S. Marshals Service badge and to focus on providing visitors with a transformative storytelling experience.
Also, recently, the museum unveiled state-of-the-art virtual reality technology that allows the public to see inside and outside the facility before it opens.
“Mary Carleton and I are humbled to lend our name to the U.S. Marshals Museum and its mission,” Young, who has served as chairman of the U.S. Marshals Museum Foundation’s board since 2009, said in a news release. “The museum has been, and will continue to be, a catalyst for positive change. We look forward to seeing the impact it makes not only in our children and grandchildren’s lives, but for other families’ across the state and nation.”
Jim Dunn, president of the U.S. Marshals Museum Foundation, said in the release, “They have given their support, enthusiasm and resources to make this project a reality. I can think of no individuals more deserving of this honor.”
The Youngs have played a key leadership role in raising money for the museum’s capital campaign, according to the release. The foundation has been responsible for key initiatives, including the Winthrop Paul Rockefeller Distinguished Lecture Series, and the Youngs co-chaired the Kickin’ Up the Dust gala with Kathy and Doug Babb.
