US Steel Donates $1M to Organizations in Mississippi County

U.S. Steel Corp. of Pittsburgh has donated $1 million to organizations in Osceola and Mississippi County, a gift aimed at strengthening infrastructure and essential services in the area.

More than $425,000 was given to relocate the South Mississippi County Regional Medical Center’s emergency room, which was damaged by flooding, and to buy life-saving equipment and construct a helipad.

Other donations and their amounts are:

• $405,000 for new equipment for Osceola’s police, firefighters, city services and first responders
• $80,000 to fund a program for at-risk youth run by the Arkansas Northeast College Foundation
• $30,000 each for the Mississippi County Community Foundation and the Mississippi County Arkansas Economic Opportunity Commission
• $20,000 to match a federal grant to improve Luxora Park 

“Our acquisition of Big River Steel and investment in a new mill here is not just about delivering profitable steel solutions,” Dan Brown, chief operating officer of Big River Steel, said in a news release. “It is also about making a positive economic impact on the greater Osceola community and helping revitalize its historic status as a bastion of American industry and innovation.”

Entergy Arkansas has pledged an additional $100,000 to the organizations.
