Richard Bell, president and CEO of Bell & Co. of North Little Rock, says the key to the success of his accounting firm has been to specialize in niches, and he recommends that other businesses try to do the same.
Bell, along with Todd Townsend, vice president and CFO of Ozark Electric Cooperative Corp.; and Jason Keith, CFO of Staley Technologies of Little Rock; were among the honorees at Arkansas Business’ 2020 CFO of the Year awards on Dec. 15 in Little Rock. They were interviewed by Arkansas Business Publisher Mitch Bettis and HoganTaylor Managing Partner Gary Cooper.
During a roundtable discussion, the three shared their companies’ keys to success, which revolve around focus and flexibility.
“We continue to build off of our niche, and we try to become the expert in that area,” said Bell, who also received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Accounting at the event. “And I think that’s real important, if you’re in a smaller firm … is to try to develop a niche — which our’s is trucking — and you just keep doing more and more and more and just try to get better, better and better at it.”
